Defending Champions St George's College booked a spot in the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Associations (ISSA)/Gatorade/Digicel Walker Cup Knockout competition, after a massive 15-0 Manning Cup triumph over Clan Carthy High at Winchester Park, North Street, Kingston yesterday.

In the group's other game yesterday Hydel were surprised 2-1 by Denham Town.

Kendon Anderson scored four times (2nd, 5th, 45th and 50th minutes) for the Neville 'Bertis' Bell-coached St George's while there were hat-tricks from Romario Jones (24th, 41st and 65th) and substitute Oshane Boothe (60th, 66th and 68th). Davion Montaque's (32nd and 31st) and Cardel Benbow (56th and 80th) were also among the goals.

sidelined

Anderson, the leading marksman in last year's Manning Cup competition, was playing his first game of the season. He had been sidelined by an ankle injury

"As you know, I have been out with an injury, so I'm satisfied with scoring four goals in my first game," said Anderson.

He added: "I have to thank God that we could secure our spot in the Walker Cup."

Assistant coach Marcel Gayle said it was a good win for the team and they stuck to the game plan.

"This was a well-deserved victory and we hope to do better going forward," said Gayle.

On the other hand, Clan Carthy's coach Kesna-Al Richards said indiscipline was the reason for their 15-0 humiliation.
