Defending champions Clarendon College and four other former winners made progress to the Round of 16 in the ISSA/Wata DaCosta Cup football competition after Wednesday’s return round of matches in the second round.

Despite losing for the first time this season, edged 1-0 by Black River High, Cornwall College, Frome Technical, Garvey Maceo High, and Dinthill Technical all secured their places in the third round of the competition.

Three of last season’s semi-finalists bowed out of the competition however, last season’s beaten finalists Central High, Edwin Allen High and Mannings School all failed to make progress.

Clarendon College beat deCarteret College 4-1 on Wednesday for a 12-1 aggregate after they had won the first leg 8-0; Garvey Maceo scored a resounding 9-0 win over St Mary High for a 16-0 aggregate; Frome Technical were 4-0 winners over Vere Technical for an 8-1 win; Dinthill Technical beat Horace Clarke High on Wednesday for a 9-0 aggregate while Cornwall College advanced 3-2 on aggregate.

Tacky High are through for the first time ever after beating Cedric Titus High 4-2 in a game at Drax Hall that saw three red cards being shown, two to players from Cedric Titus.

Christiana High eliminated Rusea’s High with a 3-0 aggregate after they won the first round and drew 0-0 in Lucea on Wednesday where Rusea’s had a penalty kick saved.

William Knibb Memorial edged Central High 1-0 in their game after the teams had played out a 0-0 draw on Wednesday; Edwin Allen fell 3-1 to McGrath High while Port Antonio High beat Mannings on away goals after they played out a 2-2 draw on aggregate.

Manchester High advanced ahead of Munro College as they won 2-1 on Wednesday after winning the first game 1-0.

Munro College leveled the scores on aggregate when they took the lead but Manchester High rallied to score two goals and advanced.

Mile Gully are through with their 3-2 aggregate win over Belair High as Happy Grove got the better of Ocho Rios 4-3 on aggregate after the drew 2-2 on Wednesday.
