Munro College captured their second ISSA/Freshhh Rural Area Under 16 title in three years after edging Vere Technical 1-0 in the final played at Manchester High school in Mandeville on Friday.

Akeem Clarke’s opportunistic 18 th minute goal was the difference in the closely contested game that saw both teams missing numerous scoring chances.

A header Munro’s hander-Paul Dehaney came back off the cross bar and Clarke was well placed just feet from the goalline to poke it into the goal, just out of reach of the Vere Technical goalkeeper Nicholas Frater.

It was Munro College’s second title in three years after they won in 2015, beating Cornwall College on penalty kicks at St Elizabeth Technical.

In the semi-finals they beat Glenmuir High who had eliminated Herbert Morrison Technical in a play-off at STETHS two days earlier. Glenmuir and Herbert Morrison had finished their quarterfinal round tied on points and goals for and goals against and ISSA had ordered the play-off that saw Glenmuir travelling to Santa Cruz and Munro in a 48 hours span.

In their semi-final Vere Technical beat STETHS who lost both the Under 16 and Under 14 semi-finals hours apart on their own home grounds.

In all STETHS played five semi-finals this past season as they were eliminated at that stage in the Flow Super Cup, the Ben Francis KO and the daCosta Cup.
