FORMER champions Wolmer’s Boys’ strode to a comfortable 5-1 beating of Kingston Technical in the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/Gatorade/Digicel Manning Cup Group F clash at Deanery Road yesterday.
Substitute Jordan James nabbed a brace in the 26th and 63rd minutes, while Demar Rose (15th minute), former national Under-17 star Jason Wright (46th minute) and Lorenzo Osbourne (64th) were the other scorers.
Donavan Edwards got the consolation for Kingston Technical a minute before the end of normal time.
Wolmer’s Boys head coach, Ludlow Bernard said he was satisfied with getting three points from the encounter but noted that his team lifted its foot off the accelerator pedal in the second period.
“I’m fairly satisfied with the result. I think we did enough to win but then we got complacent in the second half. We lost our concentration and that is something we have to improve on. I know it’s always a challenge given the kind of opponents we had,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
Kingston Technical’s assistant coach, Owen Nelson explained that his team is in a transition mode after losing several players due to them falling short of the academic requirements.
“Just before the start of the season we were relying on some players from last year but we lost them for academic reasons. I think we are making the best of the situation. The loss is a big margin but it is not demoralising and we are certainly looking to improve,” Nelson said.
The other scheduled Group F match between Oberlin High and St Andrew College in Golden Spring did not play due to a discrepancy with the marking on the playfield. In Group A, Brian Richards netted six times as Excelsior High plundered 12 unanswered goals at Campion College.
Former winners Camperdown High edged home team Waterford 1-0, while Group B rivals St Jago High blanked Mona 5-0.
Over in Group C, visitors Clan Carthy surprised Dunoon Technical 3-0, while home team Cumberland and Denham Town ended 2-2.
In the lone Group D match yesterday, Calabar High defeated 2-0 St Mary’s College at Red Hills Road.
In another one-sided clash, Group G favourites Charlie Smith walloped hosts Ardenne 8-0.
