Last year’s triple champions, St George’s College, are confident they will have another successful season when the schoolboy football competitions kick off next month.

There are some injury problems two weeks away from the start of the 2012 ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel Manning Cup competition but it is still all systems go for the North Street-based school.

“At this point we are not 100 per cent ready due to an injury to our key player,” said assistant coach Marcel Gayle.

“We know it’s not going to be easy from the get-go but we are going to go out there and give it our best … and take it step by step,” he added.

Returning to lead the charge for St George’s are last year’s leading goalscorer Kendon Anderson, Mark Brown, AndrĂ© Lewis and Nico Campbell.

Competition

St George’s will kick off the competition in Montego Bay on September 8 with a Group C game against Hydel High. The other teams in Group C are Clan Carthy High, Denham Town High, Dunoon Technical and Cumberland High.

The ‘Light Blues’ are 21-time winners of the Manning Cup competition. They defeated Charlie Smith High 3-1 in last year’s final.
