Edith Dalton defeats Jose Marti in five goal thriller
The ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup fixture took us to Jose Marti Technical High School, for the Group G clash between Jose Marti Technical and Edith Dalton James High.
The game began at a frantic pace with the home team dictating the play, and it was an end to end action as both sides hunt the opener. The game went into the interval deadlocked at 0-0, as the weather conditions made the surface a lot less favourable for the players.
The second half sparked to life immediately after the restart as Jose Marti took a 1-0 lead through number 10 Rogel Campbell who calmly slotted home from close range. Edith Dalton then took control of the game as their opponents attempted to close shop early. The equaliser came in the 65th minute through Keron Price who took his goal gracefully for Edith Dalton James. Their celebrations were cut short as Jose Marti regained their lead just four minutes later through Raheem Walker to make it 2-1.
With time running out and Edith Dalton running out of ideas, coach Omar Taffe made a late substitution, and Rapheed McFarlane entered the fray. Within minutes of being on the field of play McFarlane hits the equaliser in the 81st minute to level the game at 2-2.
The game seemed done and dusted as the referee signalled five minutes of added time and the rain began to pour down, but Edith Dalton James had other ideas as Trey Tulley made a late surge into the Jose Marti penalty area and was clattered to the ground by the defender earning his team a late penalty. Local boy Jaheem Blake drove home his spot-kick to lunge a dagger to the heart of the Jose Marti team and staff as he secured all three points for Edith Dalton James as the game ended 3-2.
