JC wins Manning Cup
Jamaica College prevailed against St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) to beat them 8-7 in a dramatic sudden death penalties shootout after they played out a pulsating 1-1 draw in 90 minutes of regulation at Sabina Park in Kingston on Friday night.
It was the third time since 2017 that JC were beating STATHS in the Manning Cup finals with the last two going to the dreaded penalty kicks.
A week earlier JC had beaten STATHS in penalties in the semi-finals of the ISSA Champions Cup at the national stadium.
It was JC’s third Manning Cup title in the past five years.
Jaheem Frazer scored in the 27th minute to give JC the lead but STATHS fought their way back into the game and were rewarded in the 58th minute when Shakeone Satchwell got the equalizer.
STATHS led in the first set of penalties when the first Jamaica College kick taken by Romaine Blake was saved.
Renson Sayers, Kevaughn Wilson, Maquan Aldridge, and Tarick Ximines made their kicks for Jamaica College as well as Satchwell, Omar Reid, Delaney Whyte, and Nickoy Gayle and had STATHS on the cusp of their second Manning Cup win after making their kicks but Namar Nelson skied the final kick and let Jamaica College off the hook.
In sudden death, J’Havier Lynch, Xavier Davidson, Michael Graham, and Thyeim Shaw made their kicks for Jamaica College as did Andre Salmon, Omari Laing, and Ronaldo Livingston for STATHS but Rashaun Frankson missed.
