Seven-time champions Excelsior High and Mona High are through to the final of the ISSA/Digicel Walker Cup after winning Thursday’s semi-final at the stadium east in rainy, muddy conditions.

Excelsior High beat Wolmers Boys 2-0 in the first game, and Mona High won 4-3 on penalties over St Andrew Technical after they had played out a 1-1 draw in regulation.

It was STATHS’ sixth loss on penalties in a final or semi-final in recent times.

In the first game, Kevon Salmon gave Excelsior the lead in the 41st minute, while Terrence Williams secured the win when he scored in the 79th minute.

Mona High appeared well on their way to winning in regulation time in the second game after they were gifted a lead in the 43rd minute when STATHS conceded an own goal.

A stunning freekick from about 30 yards out from Alexavier Gooden beat the Mona High goalkeeper in time added on, forcing a shoot-out.

Mona High’s captain, Dante Peralto, scored the winning kick with the scores tied at 3-3 to send his team through to the final.
