Ocho Rios High, St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS), Garvey Maceo High, and Frome Technical completed the qualifiers for the quarterfinals of the ISSA/Wata football competition, and the round of 16 ended with fireworks on Saturday.
Ocho Rios and Keanu Reid provided most of the drama as they came from a 0-2 deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against Dinthill Technical at Drax Hall. Reid got two goals, including one in time added in the second half. The St Ann team got the nod on goal difference, as both teams ended on four points.
STETHS and Garvey Maceo High took both spots from Zone 1 after scoring wins over Kemps Hill and Alphansus Davis High, respectively while Frome Technical got the point they needed from a 0-0 draw against early qualifiers Munro College.
Central High beat fellow early qualifiers McGrath High in a top-of-the-zone clash in zone 4.
They join Munro College, Glenmuir High, Central High, and McGrath High, which secured their places on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Clarendon College’s daCosta Cup defense ended after they were beaten 2-1 by Cornwall College and finished at the bottom of Zone 2 with one point.
Early goals from Deshaun Talbert, from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute and Dante Escoffrey in the 43rd minute gave Cornwall College 1 2-0 lead before Nicholy Forbes got a consolation in the 73rd minute.
STETHS beat Kemps Hill High 2-0 at Wembley Centre of Excellence to top Zone 1 with seven points, while Garvey Maceo rolled over Alphansus Davis High 4-0 at Brooks Park, with Malik Robinson scoring twice as they ended with five points.
Glenmuir High completed a perfect round, winning all three games without conceding a goal after clipping 10-man Happy Grove High 1-0 at Carder Park from an Oraine Watson 10th-minute strike. Happy Grove ended the game with ten players after Bonny Chisholm, their top scorer this season, was sent off in the 80th minute for dangerous foul play.
